RASMATA IMPACT STORY

Every morning , 45-year-old Rasmata Ouedraogo ,

wakes up , collects her household ’ s water containers , and takes the 20-minute walk to the community well . She lives in a village called Tim Tim in the Center West Region of Burkina Faso . The mother of four , Rasmata lives with 40 of her extended family members . All of the water used for cooking , cleaning , and drinking must be collected and carried home . Before the construction of the Sonder Project well in 2019 , Rasmata told us it would take her three to four hours every day to collect water . Now , it takes less than two hours , and the water comes from an aquifer deep underground that is naturally filtered and closed off from bacteria and run-off . She also says that she and her family experience fewer stomach – related illness since the installation of the new well . The increased amount of time in her day , along with the improved sanitation , means an improved quality of life for Rasmata .
“ The well has been a blessing ,” she tells us . “ I can ’ t stop smiling .”
