THE SONDER PROJECT YEAR–END REVIEW
played an extraordinarily therapeutic role in the aftermath of the trauma
of Hurricane Michael. Toward the end of the year, we broke ground on our
first school garden at Walton High School, which will soon be incorporated
into their culinary program. We believe that if kids begin gardening in their
youth–– particularly at a school with a high percentage of students who
qualify for free and reduced lunches––then we can combat food insecurity.
So what does the future look like for The Sonder Project?
Beyond furthering our work referenced above, we’re enthusiastic about
expanding our global initiatives to Malawi. We’re also looking forward
to getting back to where it all began for us– building schools. Our first
project was building a school in Burkina Faso back in 2015. Today, as 2020
approaches, we still believe that education is the ladder of opportunity.
Over time, we have come to discover that communities are too weak to
climb that ladder without the basic needs of food security, clean water,
and housing. This is why we do what we do.
The Sonder Project’s aim is to take a holistic approach to strengthen
communities–– oftentimes beginning with a school project, and then
working to improve the other basic needs of the community to accomplish
the long-term goal of helping people lift themselves out of poverty. Of
course, we couldn’t do it without you.
As you read more about our work, we hope you’ll be inspired to get
involved. Make a donation, attend a future event, and/or volunteer to
support one of our projects. The choice is yours. Our communities are
waiting. Thank you for your help to make the world stronger.
