THE SONDER PROJECT YEAR 2017
last year ' s

NUMBERS &

STATISTICS

51 % on Schools

Over 60 % of our annual budget went towards program initiatives in 2017 , with the biggest expenditure for the year being the construction of 5 primary schools in rural areas .

4.8 % on water wells

The largest majority of our funds spent this year went directly into the construction of 5 primary schools in remote villages in Burkina Faso , Malawi , Nicaragua , and Nepal . A good chunk of funds went towards water wells this year as well . We use a company that is local to Burkina Faso and they haul their equipment to these remote areas and drill deeply to find a good , clean water source . They also spend 3 days training the village on well and pump maintenance , and they put an excellent guarantee on their work .
Our race , the 30A Half Marathon & 5K took some funds to put on this year but paid off incredibly well . We hosted over 1 , 000 runners and their families this year and raised over $ 100 , 000 for The Sonder Project . Our office supply costs were a bit higher than average due to opening a new office in Ouagadougou , Burkina Faso . This cost included renting a new space as well as all the new office equipment such as desks , chairs , printer , and laptop for our international employee .
