THE SONDER PROJECT YEAR 2017
MAKAKANI , MALAWI
In June , we sent a small team to Makakani , Malawi . This very rural little community had been wanting a school for more than 30 years ! School age children were walking great distances to get to class , a trek that was both difficult and dangerous . For many children , this just wasn ' t possible . Parents would often keep kids home longer , waiting until they were older to send them on the long journey to school . By the time classes resumed in fall , the children of Makakani , had their very own school building , no longer having to take the risks involved with walking so far for their education .
