3 The Society of Children’ s Books & Illustration Lovers – Newsletter # 1 – August 2013

Editors’ letter

Welcome!

This is The Society first newsletter. We haven’ t had our first meeting yet so here is another opportunity for me to say hello and thank everyone once more for wanting to share this project with me. These newsletters will be a regular feature after each meeting and will act as a record of our talks & activities in order to attract future funding and sponsorship. It can also be accessed from our meetup group’ s pages and of course, through the joomag website itself, so we can expand the remit of our group even more. Please, keep spreading the word!
On the following pages you will find a selection of the books I’ m bringing to this first meeting and also information and interesting articles related to the“ What do you expect to gain from these meetings?” question that you get when you first join the group. Accordingly, there is information about contemporary illustrators, what makes a great picture book, advice on how to submit your work to publishers and best websites with ideas to use picture books in the class with little ones.
This is by no means my only baby. We are a group and I would love to have your input with other articles, examples of your work, illustrators that you love or have recently discovered, best bookshops, blogs, author’ s workshops etc, etc, etc. If you cannot come to the meetings, but still would like to contribute to the newsletter, please get in touch.
And that’ s everything! Happy reading,
Susana Sanchez-Gonzalez The travelling librarian
