When you ’ re a physician with a bustling medical practice , you need systems and processes that are optimized and secure so you can focus on delivering the best patient care . Any downtime can cause critical disruptions in patient treatment and potentially impact your business . This was the case for Dr . Jason Peters , whose practice went through several IT providers before finally finding Holly Fullingim and her team at Quick Compute . Now , thanks to Holly ’ s team , Dr . Peters can practice confidently knowing that his sensitive client data is secure and his operations are running smoothly , allowing him to serve even more patients in Harlingen , Texas , and throughout Cameron County .
FOURTH TIME ’ S A CHARM
For Dr . Peters , technology has been an integral part of his business from the start . “ I ’ ve been in practice since 2007 ,” says Dr . Peters , “ and since the beginning , we ’ ve used electronic medical records [ EMR ] to track critical patient data .” He continues , “ But our situation is also unique since there are actually two practices sharing the overhead , meaning as far as our office operations , everything is together , but as far as seeing patients , we ’ re completely separated .” This separation also includes two different EMRs . “ When I first started out , I was using a different EMR than my colleague , and they had an IT guy who had been working with their EMR for almost 10 years ,” says Dr . Peters . “ So he was able to help me with a lot of stuff in the beginning , but as things progressed and got more complicated , he ended up retiring and I had to find someone else .”
As the privacy and other healthcare-related IT regulations got more stringent , Dr . Peters knew he needed to find a new provider — but unfortunately , that was not yet Holly and her team . “ I shopped around to find my second EMR ,” explains Dr . Peters , “ and that group did an alright job , but it was hard to get a hold of them , and it was not quite as comprehensive as we needed . Plus , over time , the system really didn ’ t work for me nor my colleagues , so we all ended up switching over to eClinicalWorks , which is what we ’ re currently using as an EMR .” They also moved to a yet another IT provider — a team of three recommended by the previous firm . “ This worked well for a while ,” mentions Dr . Peters . “ They were a little easier to work with and could resolve problems better , but the owner of the company had health issues and eventually decided to close his office . We worked with one of the guys that was under him , but I think he was just too overwhelmed with trying to run a one-man show .” Dr . Peters knew there had to be a better way .
“ My practice manager started looking around for a new IT provider , and we had actually already been receiving some promotional materials from Quick Compute ,” Dr . Peters explains . “ So , we met with Holly and her team , and I was blown away by the services they offered . We ended up just starting with the more limited services that our other IT provided . It was such a gentle transition , and I appreciated how approachable and personable her team was .”
DEFENDING MEDICAL DATA
A big concern of Dr . Peters during this time was his medical data security . “ Holly ’ s proposal opened my mind to just what we ’ d been missing out on ,” says Dr . Peters . “ It was like , ‘ Yeah , we could probably use some of this stuff .’ From preventing cyberattacks and completing audits to helping us with HIPAA and all the other government regulations coming into effect , it ’ s challenging to do that on your own as a small business . So partnering with Quick Compute helped me feel a lot more confident as far as preventing data loss .” Quick Compute also helps Dr . Peters with penetration testing and cybersecurity user training to ensure that they are as secure as possible .
And thankfully , Dr . Peters has been fully covered besides one minor event involving outdated equipment that Quick Compute promptly helped him address . “ We had a router that was kind of out-of-date and old from before we started working with Holly ,” says Dr . Peters . “ Our Internet had been running very , very slow , and when they started investigating it , they realized it was because someone was trying to actively hack into our router , creating a lot of traffic and taking all the bandwidth . When they replaced it , the problem disappeared , but it ’ s simple things like that that can take down a business .”
Regarding what he would tell other business owners looking to up their IT game , Dr . Peters says , “ I would say shop around . You need to find someone who will meet with you regularly for routine IT maintenance that [ also ] has a comprehensive plan . Though it may cost you more in the beginning monetarily , the rewards are well worth it down the line .” He adds , “ For me , Holly and Quick Compute were the ultimate answer to my needs . With them , it ’ s not a reactionary thing of dealing with a crisis as it happens ; it ’ s more about preventing things from happening in the first place , and my operations have never been smoother . It also brings me a lot more work-life balance being able to go home at the end of the day and not worry about my technology .”
Thankfully , the days of bouncing from one provider to another are gone , and looking ahead , Dr . Peters is eager to continue walking this secure path with Holly and her team . With reliable systems in place , patient satisfaction and operational efficiency have significantly improved , ensuring that any downtime and disruptions are minimized . Ultimately , by having Holly and her team at Quick Compute take the IT stress off of his plate , Dr . Peters and his team can get back to doing what they do best , which is simply providing premier medical care to their patients throughout Harlingen and beyond .
