LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Luck . If we just had a little luck , wow , what a difference it could make in our lives , right ? Luck might have us win the lottery or marry our perfect mate . The idea of luck showing up at just the right moment fills us with anticipation about the possibilities for the future . But what if luck doesn ’ t just “ show up ” on its own ? What if luck is something we make for ourselves by taking an active role in crafting our future ? How exciting that future would be .
It isn ’ t luck that keeps hackers out of your network or your employees safe when using a web browser . No , it is active planning , deploying , monitoring , and evolving your cybersecurity practices and infrastructure over time .
Luck has nothing to do with finding and partnering with an IT firm that knows how to build and maintain a healthy cybersecurity posture for your company . No , it ’ s about understanding what is at stake for your company if you don ’ t , educating yourself on the building blocks of security , and then deciding to hire a quality IT firm that can provide what is needed and truly be a long-term partner with your company .
Of course , none of us are born with the ability to make all the right decisions in life every time . We all have failures . What matters is what we do with those failures to build and reinforce our foundation for the purposeful “ luck ” we create for ourselves .
I have a real treat in store for you in this edition . Maybe you have never heard of Jesse Itzler . I hadn ’ t until I heard him speak in person . I kept asking myself , “ Is this guy for real ?” He had so much energy on stage that I couldn ’ t take my eyes off him or tune out his message . His message wasn ’ t
about being the recipient of “ luck ” in building a business . It was about making your own luck with courage and being proud of your accomplishments . You should find his story enlightening and filled with actionable information .
Also in this edition , the article “ Why Choosing Quality Over Cost Matters In IT Support ” details six key points to help you identify what is truly a quality IT firm . To follow up on a real-life example of the difference this quality can make in your own business , hear from Dr . Jason Peters in this edition ’ s Client Spotlight . As a physician , he thought he knew the importance of security . Still , it wasn ’ t until finally hiring a quality IT firm that he began to understand how important that partnership would be to his practice and personal life to bring him peace of mind and an improved work-life balance . His journey of having IT services provided by multiple small IT firms over the years may be similar to your own experience . Find out what his experience was and what he learned .
You will also find two exceptional articles that provide you with amazing information on how to take the luck out of onboarding new employees , developing your employees for greater contributions in the future , and removing risk to your company from your IT firm .
It is my sincerest hope that you will find inspiration , as I have , from the individuals who have graciously contributed to this edition of IT For The Future Of Texas Business .
