About the Author: Aibileen Clark
“Taking care a white babies, that’s what I do, along with all the cooking and cleaning. I done raised seventeen kids in my lifetime. I know how to get them babies to sleep, stop crying, and go to the toilet bowl before they mamas even get out a bed in the morning.”
Aibileen had one son, Treelore. He was twenty-four years old. He was “the thinking kind” even starting to write his own book. He worked at Scanlon-Taylor mill, and was killed in an accident there. He was dead before she even knew about accident. She misses Treelore every day, but she just keeps on praying that times will change and make things easier for us folks. She writes her prayers down every day. If you need prayers, just ask Aibilieen.
Aibileen works for Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Leefolt. There she takes care of that little Mae Mobley and cooks and cleans for the Leefolt’s.
“Miss Leefolt looks terrified of her own daughter.” Aibileen said. “That Mae Mobley has a special place in my heart. I want her to grow up to be a fine outstanding person, looking beyond the color of people, not like her mother.” After Miss Leefolt found out about the book Aibileen was fired from her job. But, that Miss Skeeter, she left Aibileen her Miss Mryna job.
Aibileen is now a writer and for the Jackson Newspaper.
