The Shimmer Band, 'What Is Mine?' Release and Festival News

THE SHIMMER BAND herald the spring with surprise, enormous brand new single: ‘WHAT IS MINE?’ What an incredible year 2017 is turning out to be for THE SHIMMER BAND so far: sellout tours and queues around the block with CABBAGE and THE JESUS AND MARYCHAIN and currently on a sell-out headline tour of their own they now suddenly surprise release their new single: WHAT IS MINE? The track, a set-opening firm live favourite, comes hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed SHOOT ME (BABY), FREEDOM and SUNKICK singles and the BBC Introducing R1 playlisted last single, JACKNIFE AND THE DEATH CALL, and ramps up their already enormous and uncompromising soundworld yet another gear with this David Francolini produced and Cenzo Townsend mixed assault on the senses. Featuring Bristol's “Double XX Orchestra", (scored by DF and Adam Coombs and recorded in Bristol Cathedral), WHAT IS MINE? arrives as a perfect moment of sophisticated splendour, of unashamed and pure avant-pop ambition, and is without doubt THE SHIMMER BAND’s biggest and most international sounding song to date. Opening with a blissed out euphoric vocal chant oozing dreamily from the speakers, suddenly the rhythm section of Willz Hatcher’s thunderous Led Zeppelin-esque drums and Tom Kuras' muscular, driving dub bass line come crashing in with a monster 'take-no- prisoners' groove to meet with Daniel Barry’s unparalleled, lysergic, lazer-guided guitars and an off-the-scale analogue synthesiser hook-line by Schmit that appears to channel the joyous sound of all the angels from all the ages calling in unison from the Heavens. And as if this is not enough the band's epic and otherworldly soundscape is then all simultaneously haloed and underscored by Tom Newman’s astonishing electrified vocal performance: all heartfelt, beautifully sung melody, gut shredding pure passion, and fearless, visceral lyrics. Quite simply: This is now. This is the sound of the future. With support under their belts from the likes of BBC 6 Music, Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, BBC Introducing, Clash, Music Week, Gigwise, and the unparalleled new music champions This Feeling, The Shimmer Band are heading for the ionosphere this year.
