Upland , Indiana is home to a wide variety of people , all of whom enhance the community . While Upland continues to add new members to the town and seek new ways to grow , some families have been enhancing this community for decades . This includes families like the Detamores who have been in Upland for more than 70 years .
The Detamore family has provided Upland with jobs , a public servant , and most recently they are providing the land that will serve as the trail head for the Greenways Program .
The first Detamores arrived in Upland in 1945 . Bill and Virginia Detamore , who previously operated grain companies in Landess and Marion , bought the Upland Grain Company and moved to Upland . They ran that factory for 32 years .
While running the factory , the couple had the opportunity to go overseas , even traveling behind the Iron Curtain in 1971 .

Bill and Virginia Detamore as well as their daughter Barrett have passed on , but Miller , Long , and Sonny Detamore all still live in Grant County .
The Detamores have played a pivotal role in the Upland Community for the last 70 years , and now " they are giving back to the future ,” said Joe Pearson , the president of Upland Indiana Area Greenways Association .
