Barton Rees Pogue Festival kicks off this weekend

The Seventh Annual Bar-
ton Rees Pogue Poetry and
Arts Festival kicks off this
Friday with poetry writing
warm-ups at the Gray Barn.
The theme for the Festival
this year is “All aboard Up-
land! Celebrating 150 years.”
“On-the-spot” poetry writing
begins at 6pm, where entrants
will write pieces inspired by
the art being exhibited during
the Saturday program of the
festival.
The main festival will be
held at Upland Community
Church, beginning on Satur-
day at 10am with the Adult
Original Poetry Competition.
Immediately following will
be Dramatic or Humorous
Interpretation of favorite po-
ems. Lunch will be provided
at the venue from 11:30am to
1:30pm at a cost of $3, and
will include a 6-inch subma-

tunity to vote for their favorite
art. Both the adult and youth
“Best of Show” winner will
receive prizes. Those votes
will also be used for a draw-
ing for a visitor to win.
At the Closing Ceremony
the prizes will be presented
to the winners from 2-3pm
in the sanctuary. Wes Rediger
will be the Master of Ceremo-
nies and Roger Rayburn will
present our entertainment. For

Other attractions on the day
will include a Memorabilia
Display of the poet Barton
Rees Pogue in the historic De-
pot at the Upland Depot Park
on Main Street at the Bridge.
The Bridge Cafe on Main
Street will begin serving their
Black Cat Frappe for the sum-
mer season this weekend, and
$
will have a special price of
$3.95 on Saturday and Sun-
day. The Bridge Cafe has do-
nated gift cards as prizes for
the festival.
The featured sundae of the
month at Ivanhoe’s is Pogue’s
Peach Perfection, a vanilla ice
cream covered with peaches
in a tasty peach glaze, with a
whipped topping and a cherry,
sprinkled with cinnamon plus
cinnamon graham crackers
for dipping. For every sundae
sold, Ivanhoe’s makes a dona-
tion to the Festival.
