What types of MIDI guitars are there ?
There are basically three types of MIDI guitars : those with buttons , those with fixed strings or rods , and those with normal strings .
MIDI guitars with pads
These types of guitars can be said to be closer to a keyboard than to a guitar . We could say that they are guitar-shaped keyboards .
MIDI guitars with push buttons have a neck , where the buttons are distributed ( one per string and fret ) and , on the body , an area of strings arranged like those of a guitar that allows us to capture the pulsations and strumming , as well as the intensity of the sound . stroke .
MIDI guitars with fixed strings or rods
These MIDI guitars differ from the previous ones in that , instead of keys located in the middle of the frets , they incorporate rods along the fingerboard ( metallic , plastic , rubber and , sometimes , they are simply painted lines ) that simulate the strings .
These “ strings ” or rods are fixed , so they do not vibrate .
They also have a string area for the left hand , which captures the pulsations and strumming , as well as their intensity .
MIDI string guitars
These types of MIDI guitars are more like a guitar in that they use strings that allow us to play this instrument as we would a normal guitar . These instruments are closer to polyphonic synthesizers than true guitars .
Guitars with MIDI functions
There is a last type of “ MIDI ” guitar , and they are perhaps the most interesting option for a guitarist who is used to “ real ” guitars since they are guitars of more or less traditional construction and appearance that integrate a MIDI pickup and converter in the body itself . of the guitar
Some allow real and MIDI signals to be sent so that we can treat them independently ; others only send MIDI signals , so they always need to be connected to a sound module ;
There are also classical guitars , which thanks to different collaboration agreements between manufacturers , have come onto the market with systems that make it possible to send MIDI notation signals .
Can a MIDI guitar be considered a real guitar ?
So before you ask yourself if a MIDI guitar is a real guitar , you need to ask yourself what music you want to make and what kind of sounds you want to produce . With this , you will be able to know what type of instrument best suits your needs .
However , this does not have to be bad . There is a market for MIDI instruments . Not everyone can have a drum kit in their house for example , and many people choose a digital drum kit because it makes less noise and doesn ’ t have to disturb their neighbors . Other people have a computer where they create their musical compositions and prefer a MIDI guitar , where they can choose which notes to play and modify them in the future if necessary . Other people travel a lot and find that a small MIDI guitar meets their needs .
