So why is it that you finally made your solo debut ? What made this the right time ?
I have been producing music since 2010 . I have composed and recorded music my entire life . Even the songs with all the bands that I ’ ve been a part of , I never just composed the drums . I played a part in most songs , from the guitars , to the arrangement , to the vocals , and everything else . But , honestly , I was always shy to put anything out apart from my drums as I became really comfortable with what I was good at .
But , now that I ’ m not 16 anymore , I felt that I wasted too much time in my life not putting out the material that I wanted to . And voila ! 2023 , meet Angels of Doom !
Take us through your musical timeline for the new readers . You ’ ve been in quite a few bands . Any fond memories in particular ?
My timeline : from competing in all the band competitions at age 14 , to joining Bollywood at 16 , to extreme metal at 18 and playing high-octane music worldwide with various artists … has been insane . Loads and loads of memories and they will always be special . But performing in Undying Inc required a completely different mindset because of the complexity of the music and demands of physical fitness – something that was on a serious athlete level . That pushed me so much that good habits became instilled in me and I maintain it ( on and off ) even now .
While you ’ ve been drumming for metal bands for years , you ’ ve also been a fan of pop and

electronic music . Let ’ s talk about that . How did these genres meet in your music ?
I ’ ve always been a fan of pop and electronic music !
I started out with Backstreet Boys and Savage Garden when I was just 6-7 years old . Metal came into my life much later . I connected with anything energetic or emotional . They were always there before the heavy began in my life .
How important are lyrics to you , as a songwriter ? Take us to the words you wrote for this song .
Lyrics MAKE the song . Music is cool , but I really admire the story behind each song . Lyrics can even make an otherwise great song feel cringe worthy . But an average sounding track would be a good song with good lyrics .
This is a song about what I was feeling really strong about at the time I was writing it . I literally wrote what I was going through … about how I ’ ve recently been feeling like an underdog .
The lyrics are just a verbal response to the things and people ( oh god those people ) I ’ ve experienced in the past . It ’ s more peaceful this way and very satisfying to make things known in a more respectable public manner , but with way more calmness and less drama . I honestly wish I could react the way I want to haha , but over the years , I ’ ve wanted to use this method and arena more as an outlet . Nothing beats peace .
Is the song entirely your work ? Composition , vocals , instruments , mixing , production ....
|
Yes , everything you hear and see in the video was all me . I wrote this song many years ago , but I completed it a couple of months ago . I sent it to my friend to mix it and I hired a small team of people to shoot the video for me . A lot of things should not have happened during the shoot … things because of we had to restart everything but it was a huge learning experience with the takeaway : things can go wrong any moment .
Let ’ s talk about the music video . Who did you shoot it with ? What was the idea ?
The music video was shot in beautiful Haflong , Dima Hasao , Assam . I just hired a small local team for the entire thing . As this was my first video , I focused only on the performances and wanted to take it easy with the storytelling .
I wanted the vocals to speak for itself instead of having a huge team acting it out on screen . Sadly , since I never got much credit for my work in the past apart from just drumming , I felt it was necessary to name this track “ The Underdog ” and have both the lyrics and the video speak for itself .
What ’ s next ? Are you collaborating with any other projects ?
There are tons of material coming up .
A few albums that I have already tracked the drums for ! A few music videos with a couple of artists . A song on Mohini Dey ’ s new album where I had the honour to play the drums . A couple of different ventures and of course , my second single !
