Teeth , and in a sense , that ’ s what it means to me . Yes , I think I have managed to hold onto a little part of that in some ways , and also not in some ways .
What is the intent of the Milk Teeth anniversary tour ? Is it about getting out in the world after the pandemic ? Is it about getting a sense of how listeners respond to the album ?
Yes , I think it ’ s both of those things . But mostly I think it ’ s about taking my music around the country for people to experience it in its rawest , most pure form and to physically play the songs to people the way I wrote them . It ’ s also about doing it in a way that makes most sense to me , which is being on the road , traveling from city to city while experiencing the vastness this country has to offer .
A 4000 + km countrywide tour in a month sounds exhausting . What are you looking forward to & what are you dreading ?
I ’ m looking forward to all the food , beauty and experiences that the road brings with it . I ’ m not dreading anything really . Hopefully the caravan won ’ t break down on us . Also I hope none of us ( the crew , the driver + conductor and I ) fall sick .*
* some of us did fall sick at the very end .
What drives your artistry more than anything else ? Your vulnerability ? Your curiosity ?
My experiences . Vulnerability and curiosity are both essential for experiences to end up meaning something . If you don ’ t open yourself to the world and all the things it has to offer on the regular , there ’ s not much to pull from , and inspiration becomes hard to come by .
Vulnerability and curiosity in that sense become prerequisites to experiencing life in a manner that inspire to create .
An obvious question , but do you function differently as a solo composer / performer as opposed to a member of a band ?
Yes , very much so .
Are you working on something new right now ?
Yes I have a bunch of new songs that I can ’ t wait to start recording .
Do you still hope to see Halley ’ s Comet in your lifetime ? Is it still part of the hope that keeps you going ?
I do . I think it ’ s one of the driving reasons for me wanting to grow old . If it weren ’ t for Halley ’ s Comet , I think I ’ d be okay with dying a lot sooner haha .
If you could play live anywhere in the world ( be it the Sydney Opera House or inside a dormant volcano ), where would it be ?
Inside a dormant volcano sounds like fun . Really far underground could also be cool , in a completely silent room . An Anechoic Chamber .
