SNEHA RAMESH
Indie Quickie
What was the creative inspiration behind your latest release Always Be ?
In its essence , the song is about how love is multidimensional . It ’ s about how the human experience enables different people to experience love differently - some in happy moments while others through loss and grief .
I think generally the concept of love is always one sided and so we wanted to challenge ourselves for this one and show it in a different light .
Who would you say are your biggest musical influences ?
Ah , my influences are so diverse . BB King , Stevie Ray Vaughn , The Beatles were among the first ones that really pulled me in . Eventually artists like Young The Giant , John Mayer and Bruno Major went on to have so much impact in my early years of writing music . I draw influences these days from the younger artists in Valley , Chris James , Patrick Droney etc . It ’ s a very diverse mix .
What made you want to pick up music and pursue it further ?
I made the decision to do music full time very late in my life . I think I made that jump when I was in university doing my masters program . I had tried a bunch of other interests but none of them worked out . Once I was in college , I started listening to a lot of music , attended a lot of shows , immersed myself in the music scene of my city and made so many musician friends . I think being part of that culture pushed me a lot initially , writing and playing music as part of the same culture gave me a lot of happiness and fulfilment and I knew then I only wanted to do this .
How was this song different from your previous music ?
Oh for sure it ’ s a big jump , especially sonically . With this one , as soon as I wrote it , I knew it had to be big sonically .
It ’ s also part of my gradual shift in my sound . I started off as an acoustic singer-songwriter but now I ’ m heading towards a more modern and bigger sound . This song however is a one-off but it was the right thing to do regardless .
