Can you share the inspiration behind your new single ‘ Unke Rangon Mein ’? What emotions or experiences drove the creation of this track ?
We meet hundreds of new people and have hundreds of new experiences with them but rarely do we cross paths with someone new who makes us feel like we ’ ve known them for years even if it ’ s the first time you ’ re meeting them . ‘ Unke Rangon Mein ’ is an ode to them . A question , as to how someone can just make a home in your heart ? A hope , that they feel the same way you do .
Talk to us about your association with Molfa Music .
Molfa Music is one of the few labels in the country right now that has an artist-first mindset , my association with them has been nothing but colourful .
‘ Unke Rangon Mein ’ has been described as soothing and vulnerable . Could you delve deeper into the musical elements and lyrics that contribute to this emotional depth ?
The lines ‘ keh dena phir tum , bhule hum ko nahi .. ke hum bhi hain mann mein tumhare ’ are the most emotional I have been in a song . Feeling helpless yet hopeful is a weird emotional combination that I never expected to experience and the lines project just that . There ’ s also a lot of guitars and synths that signify the beautiful chaos this feeling brings .
You mentioned being inspired by artists like Ed Sheeran and Lauv . How do their influences manifest in your music , particularly in this new single ?
Ed Sheeran was the reason I discovered songwriting as a tool to express my emotions . If it wasn ’ t for him , I wouldn ’ t be writing songs .
Lauv has been an artist that I really look up to , his message about being vulnerable and staying true to your self while making music has seeped really deep in my writing process and has made me empathetic while writing songs .
Moving beyond your own work , what ’ s your take on the indie music scene in India , and how do you think it ’ s evolving ?
I think it is the best time to be an Indie musician and an Indie music listener in India , there ’ s a lot of talent in the country just waiting to be discovered . The listeners have been more aware and the community has grown a lot . People actually care about your story now , which was not the case a few years ago . This whole shift from mainstream music to non-film music now becoming mainstream has been really beautiful to witness .
Can you reflect on your journey in the music industry so far ? What have been the pivotal moments or lessons that have shaped you as an artist ?
My journey in the industry has been a rollercoaster ride , a lot of highs and lows . I think some of the most pivotal moments for me have been the ‘ FIRSTS ’ that happened along the way - My first original coming out , my first time touring post-lockdown , my first big collaboration etc .
Could you shed light on your production setup and creative process ? How do you approach crafting a song from conception to completion ?
My creative process involves a lot of recording on my phone ’ s voice notes . I happen to have ideas in the most random places , so I always keep my phone handy to make a voice note out of it . My process is fairly simple - I write the song first , the production follows . The most important part for me is the storytelling , once that is done , everything happens on auto-pilot .
Molfa Music is focused on nurturing emerging talent . How do you envision your role in contributing to this mission , not just as an artist but as a part of this innovative venture ?
Molfa Music is pushing the envelope for the Indie scene and I ’ m glad to have been a part of their journey in doing it for the culture .
With ‘ Unke Rangon Mein ’ being a significant release , can you give us a glimpse into any upcoming projects or collaborations you ’ re excited about ?
Currently the next step is taking all the music on the road , touring around the country and playing all of it to the lovely listeners who have been supporting it through and through . I also have a lot of collaborations with different producers and musicians in the pipeline that I ’ m really excited about .
