En-route to Rotung from Manali,
Shepherds with mountain sheep at around
11,000 ft. In the Himalayas, the treeline com-
pletely disappears beyond 14,000 ft. This was
the last patch of green we saw for a very long
time.
The wind tunnel at Sarchu,
Temperature tipping to -7 degrees cel-
sius. The mountain range is actually
miles away from Satyajit.
At Rotung pass,
14,000 feet above sea level, our first taste
of chill and windy weather. 2 degrees at 12
noon. Well above the tree line. You can’t see
any trees anywhere at this height in the Hi-
malayas.
