For the season of terror and fright, horror movies are a great way to get the adrenaline running. Here are some suggestions compiled by our staff to help you pick which ones you’ll be watching this year.
The Conjuring - 2013
The Conjuring is based on a true story set in the 1970s in a farmhouse. Famous paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren investigate the farmhouse bought by the Perron family. Ed and Lorraine reveal that the house was owned by a woman who idolized satan, killed her child, then hanged herself to a tree in the 1930s. Lorraine believes this witch haunts the family and that the house should be blessed, or have an exorcism. For this to happen they need to have a priest to come to the house, but they need proof, so they use cameras to catch any paranormal activities.
Annabelle - 2014
A couple in the 1960s live quietly in a small home. Mia, the wife of John Form, is pregnant and is obsessed with dolls. John comes home with a doll in a white dress as a present for Mia. One night, worshippers of the devil invade their house and attack Mia and John. One of the worshippers find the doll and summon something demonic by smearing blood on the wall and dripping blood on Mias doll. A few moments later the police kill both the worshippers. The doll is then used as a puppet to haunt the couple and take their souls by a demonic creature.
The Conjuring 2 - 2016
In 1977, a house in north London is being haunted by a man who under the control of a demonic creature known as Valak. A single mother owns the house with four kids, but the youngest daughter has had the most effect of this haunting because she has been showing signs of demonic possession. Ed and Lorraine Warren are then called to investigate this case in London. As the Warrens try to help this family, the demonic spirit then targets the Warren as its victim.
The Nun - 2018
In the year 1952, a young nun takes her own life at a cloistered abbey in Romania to save the demonic creature in the form of a Nun known as Valak from possessing her and coming into our world. Irene, a young woman in her novitiate and a priest with a haunted past, are sent to the secluded and investigate. Together they find out that a doorway to hell must be closed to sentence Valek back to hell. Irene, the priest, and the help of a French Canadian local who found the dead nun try to close the doorway with the blood of Jesus Christ which is necessary to close the doorway.
A Quiet Place - 2018
Two parents with their children of two are forced to live quietly at a farm, due to creatures that have taken over Earth hunting every sound they make. The writer of this movie (John Krasinski) who plays as the dad as the family made this movie to show how much would you do to protect your family. The family in this movie use sign language, farming, using leaves as plates, etc. to cope with the new world they’re living in.
