With inauguration looming over, it is almost time to say our final goodbyes to our first family. As youth, we have grown with the Obama family, who took office when most of us were very young. There is no doubt that we will miss them very much, especially our diamond of a First Lady.
Michelle Obama is known for her extraordinary work in education, fitness, and military families. She leaves behind a long legacy of gracious and kind work. Amongst her many accomplishments, she created a ceremony to honor high school counselors who have gone above and beyond for their students.
On Friday, January 6, 2017, Michelle hosted perhaps her last of many White House events honoring the 2017 School Counselor of the Year. During the event, she took the stand and delivered a heartfelt speech that will ring in our hearts for years to come. Although her previous speeches are critically acclaimed, this one just enthralls your heart.
As youth begin the New Year, some important insight from the FLOTUS herself, “...Don't be afraid. You hear me, young people? Don't be afraid. Be focused. Be determined. Be hopeful. Be empowered. Empower yourself with a good education. Then get out there and use that education to build a country worthy of you boundless promise. Lead by example with hope; never fear."
Good luck in this New Year!
