The Scoop SUMMER 2017 | Page 47

Each year, the second week of July is celebrated by proponents of body positivity and nudists alike as Nude Recreation Week. Many take this opportunity to experiment with the clothing-free life but make sure as you frolic unencumbered by your shorts that you find the right places, people, and activities to celebrate at, with, and for.

The AANR (American Association for Nude Recreation) offers meetups and events for their members, as well as those curious about the naturist/nudist movement as part of their celebration of Nude Recreation Week. Last year, the association hosted its “Nude Games” at clothing optional locations across the nation to draw in new members, with the thematic backdrop of the Summer Games in Rio. This year, the events won’t have the festive backdrop of the Olympics, but it's still the best time to go out catch some rays in a safe environment.

If you don’t want to experiment with nudity in an organized setting, you can also check out your local nude beaches or even try in the comfort of your own home. In fact, body positivity experts suggest that naked house cleaning can raise self-esteem and make you more comfortable in your own skin, so take this opportunity to slip into something more comfortable and tackle some house chores.

If you do decide to take your bare body experimentation to a public area, just remember to be safe. You will be exposing usually covered areas of your skin to the sun, so make sure to get a good lather of sunscreen before you go outside. Additionally, make sure that no one pushes you outside your comfort zone. Naturists and nudists should promote body positivity, if at any time you feel threatened, as in any situation, you should leave. Lastly, remember to have fun! You may find that you like the experiences you have as a part of the nudist community, or even find yourself tempted to join the AANR.
