The American wedding industry is scary.

The average wedding costs about $29,000, and most brides spend over $1,000 just on their wedding dress. This puts the industry’s value at

$53.4 billion. When getting caught up in the planning of a wedding, it is easy to forget what the wedding and ceremony are actually about. Instead, the planners, brides, and grooms tend to focus on the saying “Bigger is Better” and although money can be tight, we often see couples go all out on their big day.

The truth is you do not need any fancy decorations like flowers or ribbons, or even that special three-tiered cake to have a wedding. Those things are always fun and memorable and can be part of a celebration that you and your friends and family will always remember, but they are not what really makes a wedding a wedding. All of it comes down to just a few things: two people, their commitment, and the joy that follows in their life and future together.
