What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear "tequila"? Shots and liquor? Well, tequila is actually a drink made from the blue agave plant. It is generally found in the City of Tequila, Guadalajara, and the central western Mexican state of Jalisco. It is pretty common to take a shot of tequila with salt and a zip of lime. But in Mexico, it is taken in a clean shot without anything. Under Mexican law, tequila can only be made from the blue Weber agave plant from the Tequila region of Jalisco. On the other hand, the US make their tequila with 49% of liquor and the 51% of agave. Now we all know why Mexicans can handle tequila more. This past Monday, July, 24th was National Tequila Day.

1. It could help you lose weight

By taking a shot of tequila after a meal, it could improve your metabolism and appetite. It can also improve your digestive system, by making your body process the food faster. A new study suggests that the sugar found on tequila might help some people drop some pounds.

Besides making you a little tipsy, there are actually lots of benefits in drinking tequila—the 100% agave tequila. Here are some benefits of drinking it:

4. Can prevent Dementia

So according to BBC studies, they found out that people who drink a good amount of tequila tend to have a lower incidence of dementia in their life. But you also need to be really careful with tequila as you should with all things that may kill you.

Hey, tequila won’t solve your problems. But then again, neither will milk.

3. It might help fight osteoporosis and prevent Type 2 Diabetes

Osteoporosis is a medical condition in which the bones start to get fragile from loss of tissue and deficiency of calcium or vitamin D. Since tequila has Agavins, it will help you boost up the body’s absorption of calcium. The sugar found in agave could lower blood glucose levels for people who have type 2 Diabetes. But obviously, if you have diabetes, you should always talk to your doctor first, before you start taking shots of tequila.

2. It is probiotic

Probiotics also are known as the “good” bacteria, are good for our health and the digestive system. They are responsible for most of our immune system and help our bodies keep a healthy balance.
