The future is constantly on my mind. Being able to know what’s going to happen or not is impossible, but there are ways to try to get your future on the right track. Like for example, if you want to have a certain career, what’s going to get you there? What pathways can you compose to get you on the proper path? Careers are highly meaningful. Whether you are a special agent in the FBI, an athlete, cook, business person, social worker, photographer, rapper, dancer, or even a bus driver, whatever it is, it’s best to love what you do. All these jobs contains communication, public speaking, responsible, and socializing skills that not only do you need in a professional workplace, but also in the real world. Being around many adults, I’ve been hearing them repeatedly say how they don’t enjoy their job. Now don’t get me wrong, everyone wants money, but why be in an environment that you dislike? You don’t want to be stuck in a place where you’re having no fun at all, it’s best to follow your dreams and go for it. Although sometimes it doesn’t work, there are other things you might be good at and love as well.
Picking a career is tough and requires lots of research. It’s mostly based on what your skills are and what you enjoy doing. Not everyone knows their career path at such a young age,
some are questioning what to do with their life, and some don’t know their options. Career exposure is very important to a young teen like me. It’s a way to seek opportunities and learn about new careers that I might want to pursue. As for me, I have painted a clear picture of what career I would want. I’m still debating to either pursue the medical field or having a degree in psychology. Although being a junior, I still have time to choose. Psychology is all about studying the mind and behavior. There are many careers in psychology such as, clinical psychologists that treat mental and behavioral disorders, counseling psychologists that pay attention to problems and help people to to understand and to take action on them, and lastly forensic psychologists, which is what I want to do. Forensic psychologists apply psychological principles to legal issues. For example, you can decide which parent can have custody, or evaluate a defendant’s mental competence to stand trial. I always had a thing for law and psychology, maybe watching all those criminal and law shows is what got me hook. Ever since then, I’ve research and even had done projects about this field in school. I think it’s an interesting profession for me to do.
Although part of me wants to go into that field, the other part of me doesn’t. I really enjoy helping people, so the medical field is perfect for that. There’s a range of options to choose from. For instance, obstetrician who helps pregnant women before and after their birth, a pediatrician who specializes in children, a surgeon who performs medical procedures, and a family practitioner who takes care of the elderly or infants. Many of these careers are great and takes a lot of knowledge and patience, but I’m willing to go to school for it. In this certain field, I’m still not certain of what title I want to earn, but I’m sure i have a clear mind of whom I want to be.
Even though I’m still young, I know what path I would want to take, but sometimes later on, it might not be the path that I will exactly take. So whatever career you pursue, make sure you make the best of it. The future is undecided, we could only take baby steps to keep us in line to where we want to be. Life is full of the unexpected, but it’s up to you to make your choice.
