The tech of THe past

The first mobile phone that came out was a 1973 Motorola phone that had antennas. Nowadays, people don’t know too much about older phone brands like Motorola and Fireflies. The pioneers of mobile phone looked super different from the touchscreens we have today. Back then, mobile phones were bulky and only had the number pad. This phone was a 0G, meaning that it was the zeroth generation and pre-cellular. The oldest iPhone was called the iPhone 2G, and from there, we got the 3G and the 3GS. So, sometimes, we take our 4G LTE for granted.

Moving on from the phones, let’s talk about the mixtape that your first love made you? It was probably given to you on a cassette tape. These days, most of us resort to illegally downloading our music. It’s even easier to stick that digital file into our phones. So, everyone forgets the romantic act of compressing nice songs from your favorite band into a small rectangular box.

the bottom line

All the talk about old tech may pluck out the nostalgia, but let’s think for a moment, aren’t the skinny, shiny phones we have today worth the sacrifice? The unpopularity of the cassette tapes allowed the act of sharing music with someone today very worthwhile. I think it’s always fun to just scream out band names and song titles to see if the other person know about them. It’s become a guessing game, and I believe that that might be a nice game for first dates or when you’re just getting to know a person.

When it comes down to it, we like to seem deeper than others. That is, to appear more sophisticated in presence of others. So, when you hear the words, “reflect on the past”, what do you plan on telling me? The struggles you have overcame? All that have made you who you are today? But how about all the ugly technology that you have endured until this point? The flip phones and the thick TVs are definitely things to talk about. Sure, some of us may miss angrily closing our flip phones every time we are in a heated argument, but I guess an iPhone is a fair trade-in.
