“I can also honestly say that Rehoboth Youth Soccer has been more than generous too. They have offered up their fields for a phenomenal coast as well, and everybody seems to really want to work together.”

That theme of working together as a community has also translated to members of the organization’s Board of Directors, which have truly made the first year – and yes, the experience for both the families and players – very enjoyable, too.

Said Dyson, “A lot of people really, really stepped forward (as we began putting together this program for each town) and it was just a matter of putting people in their positions to really help out.”

The interest for the sport is certainly growing in Dighton and Rehoboth, according to Shaunette Nastar, who overseeing fundraising for the program. But as she, Dyson, and members of the board know, raising money for the young program will be key for the organization’s success in the future.

“The challenges (moving forward) is raising money, delegating tasks and getting the word out to potential players,” Nastar explained. “The camp last summer was a great start and we had an excellent number for a first-ever D-R Youth Lacrosse League camp.

“Fast forward to the spring (where) each level is full with some age groups actually holding more than needed to accommodate so that no one was turned away. [And] the number of kids who are wanting to try a new sport is amazing. I've heard from multiple parents how much fun their son or daughter is having with their team which I feel is a testament to both their coaches and the organization.

“I am completely confident that this is only the beginning of the program and within a couple years we will have some pretty competitive teams.”

Those competitive teams will come for sure, but for now the focus remains on providing every member of the Dighton-Rehoboth Youth Lacrosse program with the best experience possible over the next few weeks. And in a few weeks, a few squads will make the trek to Devens, Massachusetts to compete in the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League Jamboree – it will be a great way to cap what is a very successful first year of youth lacrosse in both towns.
