It’s hard being a woman. It’s obvious in every aspect of society. From salary (14.9% difference in pay between men and women working at the same job) to government positions (21.4% occupy of seats in parliament worldwide) to the lack of education, basic health care, and rights for young girls and women in developed states around the world. The role of women in society has greatly overlooked in the last few decades and men are alway seen as the core of the family. While men go to war and do their business, women were expected to cook, clean, and take care of the kids. However, this has been slowly coming to an end when women started rising up and become loud and assertive about getting their rights.

Every 8th of March is International Women’s Day. This day celebrates women’s great achievement and contributions to the society in the past and now. The first International Women’s Day was celebrated in 1910s by Socialist International and the year after, some European countries such as Denmark, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland adopted the observance. With over millions of men and women attending rallies to promote the rights for working, voting, educational access, equality, and ending discrimination towards women. The Charter of the United Nation signed an International agreement to affirm the principle of equality between women and men. By 1975, International Women’s Day was officially recognized by the United Nation and has continued to gain more international recognitions. Moreover, in countries like China, Russia and Afghanistan International Women’s Day has become a holiday.

Although there’s hope. Iceland’s government announcing plans to eradicate gender pay disparities by 2022. It’s not just though. India’s prime minister honored a symbol of rural women’s aspirations for dignity and self-sufficiency while Egyptian authorities said they would allow female prisoners an extra family visit this month, March, and more. But however, we have to be aware that women are still victims of many injuries and the road of parity is still far away.

Half of the globe’s population is composed of women; therefore, they play the most important and responsible role in a family, society, and country’s success. Women are not limited to only taking care of children, cooking food, cleaning the houses. They are more than capable of working in big organizations in important posts and holding government positions.
