The Scoop MARCH 2017 | Page 12

March 26 is Make Up Your Own Holiday Day. The holiday celebrates all made-up holidays and encourages people to come up with creative, offbeat, important, and unimportant things to celebrate, observe, and commemorate.

It’s always fun to make up your own holidays and celebrate whatever idea comes up in your head. Making up your own holiday can promote a cause, remember historical events, observe something important to you or be used to have some fun.

Making Your Holiday Official

Making an official holiday takes an act of Congress, and that takes both time and work. Your first step is to contact your local congress person. From then on, you create a strong proposal that, if all goes well, will fall into the Congressional agenda. It is a very time consuming process, but is very possible. The president can declare a national holiday, a governor can name a state holiday, and mayors can proclaim city-wide celebrations.

Here are some ideas our team came up with that they'd like as their own holidays:

Purge the Snakes - Lily

TRESPASS - Henry
