Why Didn't Anyone Buy Me Cookies on the Fourth?
After all, December fourth is National Cookie Day. We can always thank the Dutch for this one! The English word “cookie” is derived from the Dutch word “koekie” meaning little cake. For the unfortunate folks who have never heard of this sugary delicacy, it’s a relatively small baked good. They usually contain flour, eggs, sugar, and either butter or another essential oil. Cookies may also include some of your favorite snacks like oats, raisins, chocolate chips, M&M's, and assorted nuts: peanuts, almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, etc.
So Where Did Cookies Come From?
Cookies date back to somewhere around the 7th century in Persia, shortly after the use of sugar became relatively common. Within centuries, they spread throughout Europe, they conquered By the 14th century, they were common in all levels of society and all classes. Now cookies are the most common dessert and are loved by all.
