Sometimes , it pays to pay attention .

I ? m like most people ? unless I ? m fully engaged in something and in the ? flow ? state , my mind wanders . It can get engaged in endless dialogues with itself , plans for the day , useless cogitation , or daydreams .
However , in addition to the average challenges that people face with what goes on between their ears , I may be one of the most conflicted people you ? ll ever meet . I graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and from NYU School of Law . I practice in the areas of Trusts & Estates and Elder Law , and my background is in taxation . That ? s a long-winded way of saying that I am one of the most analytical people you ? ll ever meet . And yet , there ? s also a deeply intuitive , creative part of my soul . I yearn to create , to commune with the divine , to recognize and hone psychic skills , and to live a life with joy and meaning . I ? ve even won creative writing contests .
Yin and yang . Fire and Ice . ? Sometimes you feel like a nut . Sometimes you don ? t .? ( apologies to Peter Paul ? s Almond Joy and Mounds ). Balance , yet conflict .
My parents had to bribe me to have a Bar Mitzvah . I reasoned that if Judaism was right , then all other religions were , by necessity , untrue ? and if all of them were untrue , what stopped Judaism from also being untrue ? I said I was an agnostic , because I held the door open for there to be a divinity , but I just wasn ? t sure . That , and I was afraid of the consequences of being wrong . I may have been an obnoxious teen , but I wasn ? t crazy !
Yet I yearned for the divine . In good times and in bad , I ? ve sought the supernatural . I ? ve always felt like there was something more than what could be seen , and sought to experience it . I ? ve read about and numerous religions , including studying more about Judaism , while soaking in everything imaginable about the Law of Attraction , energy , channeling , and healing . Studying ( analytical , left brain approach ) and experiential ( intuitive , right brain ). The rational approach , and the ? woo woo ? ( to quote my friend Julie Ryan ). ( Of course it ? s the rational approach to the ? woo woo ?, so go figure ). Looking for answers , but without really paying attention to what was in front of me .
