XPLORER Schools Pack from British Orienteering Sport England has worked with the Association for Physical Education to produce a range of resources to support you to bring This Girl Can into your school. Resource include: •  Six themed workshops focused on the campaign’s emotional themes and featuring flexible and interactive tasks •  Hints and tips to help staff and students actively implement the workshop ideas O In order to access the free resources for schools you must register on the This Girl Can website. ver the last few months, Sport England’s This Girl Can campaign went viral. It dominated TV screens and billboard sites across England. Its images of real women and girls jiggling, wiggling and having fun, generated headlines across the world. Now we want you to help us bring the attitude and sass behind This Girl Can into YOUR school. We want your girls to feel that they can, too. We urge you to register your school on the ‘This Girl Can’ website in order to access free resources that will enable you to support the campaign. Once you have registered, you can not only access the Resource Pack but other materials, including: •  Downloadable copies of the posters that feature in the campaign •  Downloadable images that support the campaign •  This Girl Can & partner logo’s •  Insight pack detailing the research behind the campaign It only takes a minute, so please support us by registering and help build awareness of this important campaign. Every local authority secondary school in England has been posted four free A1 sized posters for display around your school to highlight the This Girl Can campaign and its important images/messages. These posters were delivered to schools before the Easter break and were addressed to the ‘Teacher in charge of PSHE’. So please seek these out and help us to raise the profile of the campaign. Please display these posters in areas within your school that will achieve maximum impact. 16 On your Marks... www.lancashiresport.org.uk X plorer Schools provides a simple tool-kit to enable delivery of fun, active and inclusive educational activity for your pupils, enabling you to confidently deliver the Xplorer Schools activities and sessions. Everything you need is enclosed including instructions and templates to deliver 8 sessions. The resource cards provided in this pack are designed to enable a basic understanding of orienteering whilst developing the essential physical, thinking and social skills through a fun, inclusive and exciting approach to teaching and learning – each resource card highlights the key skills the children will learn. Xplorer Schools complements the national curriculum and provides many crosscurricular and themed opportunities. The resource can be used as standalone activities or linked active learning opportunities within the curriculum, as a lunchtime activity or an after school club. Xplorer Schools is a fantastic way to get children learning outside the classroom – but all activities can be adapted for the outdoor or indoor environment. It will give your pupils the skills needed to progress to an Xplorer event in their local park; used together they could provide the basis for a festival or a series of multi skills stations enhancing your school’s intra- and inter-school experiences.
