W
ith more than 25 years of experience, Westfalia
Technologies has gained insight into automat-
ed operations and best practices for designated
roles throughout a warehouse. Working with an automat-
ed storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) can bring new
challenges that can be proactively solved by educating the
right people in your warehouse who work closely with the
system.
These roles may not require individual positions, but the
knowledge needed in each role is critical for the longevity
of your automated warehouse. They may not be needed for
all shifts, but this depends on the scale of the operation,
environment, and needs that are unique to your warehouse.
Below are important roles that can keep your automated
warehouse on track and on time.
Warehouse Coordinator
This role typically has a good overview of the delivery
schedule, customer base, shipping and receiving logistics,

and the process integration with the overall company. The
person filling this role can prioritize orders, plan for peak
throughput demands, review planned staff or other short-
ages, and review downtime for maintenance. Typically, this
person is in an office environment and not on the ware-
house floor.
Responsibilities:
• WES operation, fault review, corrective action and
clearance
• Order fulfillment handling, scheduling and prioritiza-
tion
• Interfacing with departments, upstream and down-
stream.
• Rewarehousing, inventory control, and other adminis-
trative functions
