When Westfalia was founded in 1992 , Dan Labell ’ s vision was to introduce a European-designed line of automated storage and retrieval systems ( AS / RS ), featuring a triple-rail support rack structure for pallets to the North and South American markets . He recognized that triple-rail supported pallets would provide warehouses
and distribution centers with safer product handling with fewer problems in breakage and deflection , thus improving their overall operations .
“ Go Green with High Density ”
Over the past 25 years , many companies began realizing that implementing environmentally friendly , or “ green ,” policies and practices could result in cost savings that directly impact their bottom line . However , being green also has the added benefit of enhancing a business ’ brand reputation .
With a high-density AS / RS , customers can store more product into a smaller building footprint . This
means customers can use less land by retrofitting existing facilities or by building smaller ones ; thus lessening their environmental footprint while potentially reducing building costs .
Further , automated warehouses typically require less energy due to fewer interior lights and less space to heat and cool . Also , Westfalia ’ s storage and retrieval machines ( S / RMs ) are outfitted with regenerative braking , which transfers surplus energy to the power grid for use by other machines .
Westfalia ’ s Savanna . NET ® Warehouse Execution System ( WES ) controls and optimizes material flow , allowing warehouses with time-sensitive products to employ first-expired , first-out
