2 Saltus Stage

Foreword - Director of Performing Arts, Mrs. Lisa Maule

Looking through this magazine, it seems quite incredible what our students have managed to accomplish in just one term!

The early experiences of performance at Lower Primary level introduce students to the preparation involved in stage productions and the Upper Primary Department certainly demonstrated a wealth of talent in the Year 6’s talent show. Performances in assemblies are an important vehicle for students to become comfortable on stage and taking them out into the community provides an opportunity for them to become connected to the community in which we live.

Bringing all the departments together for the Ruth Henderson Concert was a great way to celebrate the talent of our students and once again proved an enjoyable event for all.

The Practical Drama Exams showcased our students' thespian talents. The high calibre of performance is testament to the years of performance opportunities, building self confidence and experiencing a wide range of drama techniques.

As with all things in this day and age, technology is constantly evolving and to have students running sound and lighting boards and using technology as part of their coursework shows how far we have come.

Through the kind donation of 4 ipads from the PTA, Miss McDonald is leading the use of apps both in instrumental lessons and ensemble rehearsals.

Key Stage 3 students took centre stage in the latter part of this term with performances in the Performing Arts assembly and Shakespeare Speaks, by the Year 7s. The quality of theatre was the result of the hard work of everyone involved and the cohesive teamwork both on and off stage.

The 100% pass rate for ABRSM Exams reflected the hard work of our students and instrumental teachers, both in Practical exams and the over 70 students who now take theory lessons.

Students, parents and performing arts supporters, thank you for all your hard work, support and friendship and have a fantastic Summer!
