Saltus Stage 9

Bermuda Festival

On Thursday 29th of January, 13 lucky students were able to attend a Bermuda Festival Outreach Session with Broadway star Rebecca Faulkenberry.

Known for her work in Spiderman, High School Musical, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Rock of Ages (to name but a few), the workshop was

incredibly inspirational for students,

dealing with questions related to life as

a musician and how to overcome the

challenges that some areas of this can

present.

Her overall message? Work hard for your

dreams!

Year 3 visited Meet Billy’s band with members of the English Chamber Orchestra. They learned about instruments of the orchestra and listened to some amazing music. The English Chamber Orchestra is the most recorded chamber orchestra in the world, it's discography containing 860 recordings of over 1,500 works by more than 400 composers and has been selected as one of the world’s greatest ‘living’ orchestras. In addition to hearing some of the ECO musicians performing, a former Saltus student, Matthew Ross, performed with the group on his trumpet. This was a real treat!

This year's Bermuda festival was opened by the largest orchestra Bermuda has ever seen. As part of the Bermuda Festival’s Outreach Programme, over 50 Music students from both Upper Primary and Secondary Departments participated in a workshop led by members of the English Chamber Orchestra.

Two pieces, Rondo from Abdelazar by Henry Purcell and Tchaikovsky’s Marche Slave, were rehearsed in preparation for a performance at City Hall on Friday, 23rd January, joining 200 students from other schools across the island as part of the official Opening Ceremony of the 40th Anniversary of the Bermuda Festival.

The workshop was an enjoyable experience for all, with

students benefitting greatly from the firsthand experience

of listening to the orchestra members and gaining valuable

insight into the chosen repertoire.

Prior to the orchestral piece the fanfare was performed by

a brass quartet featuring our own Ms. McDonald
