6 Saltus Stage
Spring COncert
A full and appreciative audience enjoyed this year’s Spring Concert in the Alumni Hall and an eclectic range of musical genres ensured that there were pieces to be enjoyed by all ages.
The first half provided an opportunity to hear renditions by the smaller ensembles from Jazz Band and Junior Jazz Band to the String groups, which have grown both in numbers and stature. A special mention to vocal soloist Megan Zimmerer, who gave a poised and musical rendition of Blue Moon accompanied by the Jazz Band and coached by Ms. Arthur, Vocal Specialist.
Concert Band, Wind Band and Orchestra students performed to a high standard and the evening concluded with close to 70 students performing Rondo from Abdelezar by Purcell. This piece had been rehearsed by members of the English Chamber Orchestra earlier in the year for a performance for the opening of the Bermuda Festival at City Hall but was a fitting way to end the Concert, with musicians aged 8 to 17 enjoying playing together.
Funds for the Michelle Outerbridge Award are raised from both ticket sales and the popular bake sale held at Intermission, which was again a testament to the support of our parents and appreciated by all!
We thank this year’s Year 13 students Calum Maule, Philip Hagen and Sydney Steeves whose contribution and support to the musical life of the school has been tremendous. What a pleasure it has been to see them all come through from Cavendish and grow into competent musicians and outstanding students. We wish them the very best in their future endeavours!
