Foreword - Director of Performing Arts, Mrs. Lisa Maule

This term has been one full of performances! Whether it be in the form of peer assessment in the classroom to the larger scale onstage productions, students have committed themselves to excelling in the Performing Arts.

The department has recently received a number of iPads to incorporate into classroom and instrumetal teaching courtesy of the PTA, look out for details in the next edition highlighting how they have been used and our top pick of apps for school and home use!

The amount of work that goes on behind the scenes is invaluable, from the editors of the magazine working tirelessly to prepare each forthcoming issue, to the stage crew, enabling performances to run smoothly.

The knowledge and experiences gained in the classroom and in rehearsals can be drawn on by students when it comes to performance, but nothing can compare to the adrenaline and sense of accomplishment that is achieved at the end of all the hard work!

This edition of the magazine draws attention to excellence in solo performance by our students as well as our many high profile events. Inside you will find recordings of our most accomplished students alongside our beginners starting their journey- some of which have only been learning a few weeks. Students have also won internal and external awards for excellence in the performing arts. Alexis Smith recently won the Teen Performing Arts award for her accomplishments in the world of dance and Gabriel Jones the Andrew Morrison Scholarship (find out more on page 11). Finally Ryan Topple was presented with the Michelle Outerbridge Opportunity Award at this year’s Spring Concert. He is heavily involved in all things musical, playing both Alto and Baritone Saxophone in the Junior Jazz Band, Jazz Band and Concert Band, is a member of the Secondary Choir and has joined the Orchestra this year as a timpanist. Ryan has recently taken Grade 5 theory and is a Grade 6 pianist and having taken up the organ this year, has contributed to services at Wesley Methodist church and St. Patrick’s, as well as playing for the Saltus Prizegiving service at the Cathedral.

Students and staff work tirelessly to reach standards of excellence, none of which would be possible without the support of parents to ensure attendance at rehearsals, practice or running lines at home and even baking cookies and brownies for bake sales!

We hope that you enjoy this edition of the Saltus Stage and far reaching possibilities and life changing experiences that the performing arts offer.

Message from the Editors!

Daniela Buglione, Billy Ewles, Ms. Becky Jones

This term has certainly been a rollercoaster for the team in editing and uploads. We can safely say we have included more recordings, videos and embedded content in this than any other thus far! The Performing Arts department now has an active SoundCloud, Twitter, instagram and YouTube accounts(@SaltusStage) and are constantly looking for new ways to evolve with the ever expanding world of technology.

We are always looking for new faces to be involved- if you are interested let me know!
