This term has been very busy indeed! Many GCSE and AS level students were involved in our production of Our Country’s Good, both on stage and behind the scenes.
KS3 students have been just as busy. Year 7 students have just completed devising and performing their own original fairytales. They need to show their mastery of brand new skills like still images, narration and mime. Selection will also be made soon for the next Shakespeare Speaks!
S8 students have been exploring Issue-based Drama and learning about the role police and media play in missing person’s cases. Every lesson we add clues to our map of the island in the hope of solving the mystery!
S9 student have been exploring the wonderful play Sparkleshark by Philip Ridley and developing their script analysis, characterization and improvisation skills based on its events and characters. They are about to learn about technical theatre and design a set and lighting plan for their own production.
Year 11’s have been developing their final Unit 3 GCSE performances. Their stimulus is the Kindertransport of Jewish children escaping occupied Europe in the 1930’s. Their research has led them to speaking with a survivor, who is kindly helping them with the project via Skype! These performances will take place just after Easter- watch out for the invitation to attend!
AS Drama student are currently working a production of Be My Baby by Amanda Wittingdon. This play explores the ‘baby scoop’ scandal of the 1960’s where many young women who found themselves pregnant were forced to have their babies adopted. So you see, studying drama provides a unique lens through which we can view ourselves, our history, culture and society!
