2 Saltus Stage

Welcome to the Second Edition of The Saltus Stage!

The New Year affords us an opportunity to look back at the Christmas performances enjoyed by children in all 3 Departments and remember the camaraderie and self-confidence gained from these experiences.

Early in the year, students are given the opportunity to see performances and work with professionals from the Performing Arts field, some of whom are former colleagues from the U.K.

The enthusiam generated by these experiences is exciting to see and is then made full use of by incorporating elements into the Curriculum (as for Frantic Assembly) or using as a stimulus to embark on future projects.

Rehearsals for the annual Secondary Production gathered pace in the New Year, resulting in a stunning production of Chicago, the Musical. Ms. Jones' vision ensured that the capacity audiences appreciated the hours of rehearsal time that went in to producing such a professional show. It was certainly a memorable experience for all involved and a photobook for cast members will ensure that they can look back at their accomplishments with pride.

Music Curriculum work evolves through the 3 Departments from Lower Primary, where the emphasis is on fun and learning through movement whilst using rhythmic percussion instruments to Upper Primary Music, where increased coordination enables reading skills to be developed further by using tuned percussion and recorders.

By the time that Drama students have reached SGY, they have a wealth of techniques on

which to draw for their devised work. This was evident in the incredibly moving performance given by 4 A Level Drama students in their final Practical Examination.

With the Drama Studio now equipped with fully functioning light and sound capability complete with pipe and drape, the intimate 'black box' theatrical setting provides a perfect backdrop for performances such as these.

Younger students take the stage here next term in the Middle School Production of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. SGY students are given an opportunity to direct which will this year be done by Head Boy Will Finnerty and Deputy Head Girl, Eryn Beach and will take place on June 3rd. Year 7's will also be showcasing their acting skills in the annual 'Shakespeare Speaks' event on June 19th.

Lastly, but not least come and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at the Ruth Henderson Memorial Concert in the Park on May 29th (Rain Date May 30th). We hope to see you there!
