STEM is an abbreviation for Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Math. Fortunately, Saint Brendan offers not only
a STEM academy, but also a STEM club that is moderated by Mrs.
Escarpio. STEM club focuses on involving all students, whether or
not they are in the academy, in careers and activities that involve
with science, technology, engineering, and math. The kind of
activities that STEM club offers involves different kinds of things.
They range from guest speakers to field trips.
Last year, the club brought in Saint Brendan alumnus
Dennis Moreno to speak about working in the field of mechanical
engineering and to give a glimpse of the world of biochemical
engineering. They also had done a field trip to the annual
engineering exposition at Florida International University where
students had a chance to see the wind wall which analyzes
hurricane strength.
This year, one of the recent events was a balloon-car race
where students had to build balloon-powered cars. “It was really
