MESSAGE FROM
THE EDITOR
EDITOR: Katherine Rojas
“The future is not as bone-chilling as we
make it out to be.”
Whether you just started
high school less than two
months ago or your senior year
has already commenced, you
may have been experiencing
uncertainty or even fear about
the abstract and intangible fact
that graduation is imminent,
whether it is 8 months or four
years away. Just like walking
into a terrifying haunted house
or listening to a story that
makes your skin crawl, high
school can be a fear-inducing
time in your life -- but only if
you let it.
I am a senior now, and
all I can think about is where
I will stand and who I will be
once I graduate. It is almost
an unnecessary worry, simply
because no human being can
have total control over what
actually happens in their life.
You can “be the best version
of yourself that you can be”
and “treat others as you would
want to be treated,” but these
are not official “tickets” that
you can just buy to see a great
show. There is no formula
to becoming successful or
achieving exactly what you
wish to achieve, but as we have
learned throughout history,
working hard and taking care
of yourself have both proven
to be extremely beneficial.
A really simple, yet
significant
lesson
I
have
learned throughout my time
in high school is that there are
some things that we have no
control over, and other things
that we do. When you come
across any kind of obstacle or
shortcoming, try to place it in
one of those two categories.
If it is something you cannot
control or change, there is no
sense in trying to fix it. If it is
something you can certainly
change, however, take cracks at
it until you solve it and improve
your situation. Think of the
struggles that are beyond your
control as lessons to better
yourself and your position in
the world. If you see asolution
for something, grab it by its
horns and defeat it, or simply
make it easier to handle.
High school is meant
for
introspection,
learning
more about yourself, the
world, and others, and seizing
opportunities that will benefit
you and your future. This is not
to say that these four years
willbe or have been a walk in
the park, but they can be much
easier and less stressful than
you think ifyou work hard and
have confidence in yourself.
Neither you nor I have the
ability to foresee upcoming
events, but I am almost certain
that the future is exponentially
less terrifying than say, an
impending zombie apocalypse.
