Astonishing Views and
Incredible History:
Kourion Archaeological Site
Located on the west coast of Limassol,
in the small town of Episkopi, Kourion
was an ancient city of great importance
for Cyprus. In present, the archaeologi-
cal remains of Kourion are one of the
island’s most important historical places.
The Acropolis and all archaeological re-
mains within the area are listed as a UN-
ESCO World Heritage Site.
The most important monuments at the
site are the Agora, the House of Achilles,
the House of the Gladiators, the Theatre,
the Baths and the Complex of Eustolios,
the Early Christian Basilica, the Sanctu-
ary of Apollo Hylates, the Stadium and
the Small Basilica.
In addition to its historical importance
and many significant discoveries that
can be seen at the site, Kourion is also
famous for fascinating views, a charm-
ing beach as well as crystal clear waters.
However, since the Acropolis and its sur-
roundings might need more than a brief
look, it is highly recommended to visit
the archaeological site before exploring
the beautiful beach and swimming into
the crystalline waters. ■
Besides unforgettable resorts and fun activities,
the archaeological sites that surround Limassol
are one of the reasons why people, especially
history aficionados, visit the area
