Award winning star
“It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.” Shakespeare.
This quote could not be truer because of the gallant efforts made by the Veterans Administration Hospital Engineering Section.
Our facility was awarded the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Star
Award for 2020. The category recognized stems from the Albuquerque Retrofit Rebate Program. It is based on the highest amount of electricity saved by energy efficiency projects that were completed in 2019.
The VA Hospital’s outstanding efforts to increase the energy efficiency via PNM’s Retrofit rebate program earned the facility the award for going above and beyond with energy savings when the Heating, ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and GREMS were completed.
“We want to enhance and make people awareness how activities, including energy use; purchasing; consumption; and recycling decisions impact the VA’s goal to implement sound stewardship practices that protect our air, water, land, and other [precious] natural and cultural resources,” stated Arthur Tafoya, GEMS Program Manager.
These two projects contributed a significant saving of 1,756,321 kilowatt hours. As impressive as that sounds, to put it in perspective, that equates enough energy to power 258 homes for a year. To add to that it is equivalent to removing 952 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the air and saving 574,317 gallons of water.
Reducing our carbon footprint.
“If we get involved and we can create a more sustainable future for all of us,” said Tafoya.
In the words of Lady Bird Johnson, “The environment is where we all meet; where all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share”
