remmlife 2 Tour
turned upside down as soon as Lil Yachty appeared on stage.
The girls at the Wale show last November weren’ t as crazy as these Lil Boat fans, and those chicks were damn-near fighting each other to catch Wale’ s sweat towels. The girls and guys who were there for Yachty were obsessed, not letting anything stop them from snapchatting the rapper and attempting to hold his hand. Aside from his fans elbowing ya boy in the head to snap him instead of just enjoy him, Yachty’ s set was alright. He sounds nothing like the tracks, and his voice wasn’ t as captivating throughout the yelling. He was still working on his stage presence, and although I wasn’ t impressed with his performance, it was ultimately his fans that made me abandon his set halfway through. It was tough giving up a spot so close to the stage, but I had faith that I could mosh my way back to the front.
I used my break from the show to buy some merch and scored me a dope tour long sleeve for $ 35, and I give them their props for raping their fans.
After grabbing my shirt, I headed back upstairs and dealt with an annoying drunk white girl who almost ruined my night, but I prevailed. And sure enough Rae Sremmurd came out with“ Start A Party,” and it all clicked for me.
I had heard Sremmlife 2 before, but for some reason it didn’ t truly impress me until that moment. Lit does not even accurately describe how turnt their set was. In hindsight, it was a long and really fun blur, and it was no doubt what made me a true Rae Sremmurd fan. Their set intermingled their current work with the hits from their last album perfectly, and it illustrated to me that these guys are really just about having a good time. Party music doesn’ t do their work justice; the music that they create is legit powerful and able to make u move and lighten your mood, regardless of how you’ re feeling.
As if their energy wasn’ t enough for the night, they enlisted guest appearances from Ty Dolla $ ign, K Camp, Dae Dae, Fabo, and Mike Will Made It.
The special guests were unexpected minus Ty Dolla $ ign amd Mike Will, but even they made their appearances so invigorating that it didn’ t even cross my mind that they were sure fire special guests. It was my first time seeing the Taylor Gang crooner on stage, so it was definitely a treat. And Mike Will literally made it rain on all of us, and now I think I’ ve had somewhat of a stripper-like experience. Even post show, I stayed a little while after to collect bills that slipped through the hands of the crowd. Times are hard man; that’ s my defense. K Camp was also a welcomed surprise, performing a slew of his hits, reminding me how much I enjoy his music. I was still trying to make my way to back to the front while Dae Dae made an appearance, but I did get to see my boy Fabo perform once again. It’ s weird that I’ ve seen him live so many times, but I guess it’ s just an Atlanta thing. There was a moment of silence for the fallen D4L soldier, and when one loser felt like it was cool to be obnoxious, everyone on stage turned militant in an instant. It was saddening that we had to hold a moment of silence but meaningful to see Shawty Lo’ s comrades show him such respect.
But back to Rae Sremmurd. Because without the special guests, without the openers, and without the huge screen behind them, Slim Jimmi and Swae Lee threw a party. There were pineapples flying throughout the concert, and one even hit this skinny little black girl behind me dead in her face. Crazy thing is, with pineapple chunks in her hair on her face( and surely in her eyes), she smiled, screamed, and continued to party. They gave life to their newest hits like“ Real Chill,”“ Black Beatles,”“ Shake It Fast,” and“ Over Here.” Somehow, the constant rotation of beach balls, one of which I jugged for my collection, helped elevate their performance with beach vibes and memories of good times.
The two Tulepo brothers hit Atlanta up with the wildest, most engaging, and intimate set that I have ever seen at The Tabernacle. Without a # 1 record, the boys put on for the city. Without the Mannequin Challenge, the boys made the night memorable. Their charisma,( literal) head-kicking openers, beach balls, lots of water bottles, flying pineapples, and belief in their music was all that Rae Sremmurd needed.
