The week brought both championships and setbacks
for some of the nation’s top amateur riders. Those
who led the pack early on didn’t necessarily find
their place on the podium at Freestone, reminding
fans that you can never quite predict what will
happen in motocross.

Justin Hoeft turned heads as he worked his way
through the pack up to second place after a poor
start in moto one of the very competitive 250 A
Pro Sport class. When Hoeft suffered a violent crash
later that day, he was unable to finish the race.
However, despite a shoulder injury, when Hoeft returned the following day with another flawless ride
for a second place finish in the second moto of
250 A Pro Sport, it became clear that Hoeft is not
just fast, but that he is able to push through pain
and overcome adversity.
It was a week of hard knocks for #188 Kawasaki
rider Chris Alldredge. He looked ready to take
the championship in 450 A Pro Sport, leading
the pack to clean wins in the first two motos.
However, mechanical issues in moto three
forced him to DNF, leaving the championship
out of reach.
In 250 A Pro Sport Alldredge led the first moto
up through the white flag. After a problem with
his bike in the final lap, #57 Yamaha rider Aaron
Plessinger moved in for the win in the first moto.
Plessinger went on to sweep all three motos for
the championship.
While tough breaks and a rough track brought
heartbreak for some, such was not the case for
Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Lance Kobusch, who was matched only by #172 Hannah
Hodges in titles earned at Freestone. Kobusch
certainly earned his keep, competing in five
classes, earning titles in 85 (9-13), and (12-14)
Limited and Modified classes, and placing
second in Mini Sr. (12-13) Limited and Mini Sr.
(12-14) Modified classes.
