Freedom Fund Banquet
The Rockdale County NAACP held the annual Freedom Fund Scholarship Banquet
fundraiser, themed “Education is the Key to a Successful Future,” on March 21 at
the Georgia International Horse Park for scholarships going to one student from
each of Rockdale’s three main high schools. The keynote speaker, the President of
the Georgia NAACP the Rev. Dr. Francys Johnson, warned the room full of leaders
against greed and individualism weakening strong ties to the community and
against forgetting all those who came before them and helped them achieve their
success. Former Rockdale NAACP President Willie Gibson was named the winner
of the Excellence Award. Pastor T. R. Collins of Lilly of the Valley Baptist Church was
named the winner of the Community Service Award. Congressman Hank Johnson
was named the winner of the Jean Williams Community Spirit Award.
