The Rize: Where does the name "La Dive" come from?
Matt: I suggested calling it that because I'm from capele and its a place there. Its on the rocks in the water, a diving spot.
The Rize: What made you decide to play reggae?
Matt: I started to play punk rock then made it to scotch music, naturally came to raggae.
Shawn: I never really listened to raggae until I met these guys.
Martin: It all started with Matt really, he introduce us all. If you listen to our sound it spirals out of control from raggae a lot. Its more raggae inspired.
The Rize: What bands inspire you?
Matt: They're not really well known but, RX Bandits, they're like a psychadelic raggae punk rock group. Also Manifesto.
Shawn: I really listen to a mess of music, all sorts of genres.
The Rize: How did you come upon having shows at bars?
Martin: Well Matt and I use to live together and throw a lot of parties and we would jam. But after awhile the party wouldn't fit in my house anymore, so I went to bars and said "this is whats going on at my house, you guys want to make money off of it".
The Rize: How long have you been playing music?
Matt: I've been playing since high school. I use to play drums in a scotch / punk band. So I'm originally a drummer and two years ago I decided to switch to guitar.
Shawn: I've also been playing since high school. I started to play acoustic and then got into electric and started playing blues. I'm glad I'm playing raggae now, it's a great change of style.
Martin: I've been playing for a really long time. I'm actually a guitarist by trade, I toke over bass the same time Matt switched to guitar.
Devon: I've been playing drums since 6th grade. Had a few shows at the capitol and played with many different bands. I'm glad to be playing raggae though. It was a great decision.
The Rize: What can we expect from La Dive in the future?
Matt: We want some recording done, have a few originals but haven't had a chance to record. We have something lined up though, its just to take it forward.
