What is tutoring and what does it mean? Tutoring traditionally comes with the idea that your child will be provided with help for an educational subject, but actually it can do so much more than what it means! There are many benefits to tuition academically and for other important reasons such as: confidence building, learning revision and study techniques and generally providing pastoral support through the year. Tuition can come in a range of different methods also, from Skype and online tutoring, group workshops and the traditional oneto-one individual tutoring. What are the benefits of tutoring? Tuition provides the individual support that students need to become successful independent learners. We find that by being tutored, our students are able to see tackling the work they are doing in a different way and also able to work at their own pace. Being tutored means you can also develop personal learning methods and be mentored through the ever worrying ‘revision and exam’ time! It’s also very important from an early age to understand what type of learner your child is. Whether it’s auditory, visual or kinaesthetic, to be able to develop learning methods from an early age will make your child’s learning a lot more effective! When should you start tuition? It’s important to pick up any problems in your child’s learning as early as possible. As well as working on specific subjects that may be found difficult, loss of interest, low self esteem, grades dropping and increasing anxiety are all signs that your child might need that extra bit of support outside of school. Where can I find a tutor? Before looking for a tutor, it’s extremely important to review the reasons why you want a tutor for your child. To get the most out of your tutoring sessions it’s important to try and have a basic underlying set of reasons why your child would need the extra support. It’s also important to have a tutor that suits your child, so make sure you have a ‘Trial Session’ to introduce your child to the tutor. Look for local tutoring companies or individual tutors such as Ahead Tuition. At Ahead Tuition we provide excellent revision workshops and courses as well as the highest level individual tutors for all students in primary and secondary education.
