Investing sustainably in an award winning fund W 42 the riverside journals e are seeing rising interest in sustainable investment as institutions and individuals increasingly realise that financing those companies that provide the products, services and technologies to deliver a cleaner and more efficient economy can deliver a strong investment performance. We, at Quilter Cheviot, are great advocates of the positive screening approach, as it gives a focus on companies offering solutions to the global and emerging challenges of reducing carbon emissions, improving the food supply-and-demand imbalance and reducing water shortages, to name but a few. For clients with £1,000 or more to invest, our sustainable investment strategy, the Climate Assets Fund gives access to the kind of investment expertise that most others in the market keep reserved exclusively for their wealthiest clients. We offer access to the same investment process and independent research as our Discretionary Portfolio Service (from £200,000) and Managed Portfolio Service (from £25,000) at a lower entry level, making the Climate Assets Fund more accessible. Managed by Claudia Quiroz and William Buckhurst, the Clim ate Assets Fund addresses the challenges we face from the interaction of three macroeconomic factors – population growth, resource scarcity and climate change – by investing the five themes globally: energy, food, health, resources and water. The fund seeks to achieve long-term capital appreciation and income by multi-asset allocation – investing in global equities, along with fixed interest and other alternative investments such as green infrastructure funds. The investment focus is on companies offering solutions to the global and emerging challenges of delivering ‘more with less’ for a rapidly growing population with a finite supply of resources and within a carbon constrained environment. Current investment examples include companies offering railway transportation, energy efficient solutions, water infrastructure, recycling packaging and organic and natural food. We have a two-tier investment approach – top down and bottom up. We aim to reflect our views on asset class and region allocation through the portfolio by tapping into the expertise of the Quilter Cheviot Asset Allocation Committee and we complement that in-house macroeconomic view with stock ideas within our five investment themes. To select the specific holdings, we look for sound business strategies, leading market positions and a track record in innovation, as well as strong balance sheets and cash flow generation. We do not invest in blue-sky type companies, with most of the portfolio invested in mid-to-large market capitalisation companies, from $300m upwards. This market cap threshold ensures liquidity and reduces volatility. Valuation is also a key factor to enter and exit positions within our portfolio of 50 to 60 securities. Executive Director at Quilter Cheviot, Claudia Quiroz, said: “At Quilter Cheviot, we are passionate about delivering a sustainable investment solution that is multi-asset and offers an attractive dividend yield of 2.5%. We have a dedicated team with five years’ performance track record and an established investment process that benefits from the considerable depth of analytical resources across Quilter Cheviot.” You can invest in the Climate Assets Fund directly with us and the fund can also be included in a Junior ISA and ISA of your choice, via your ISA provider.
