THE RIVER TIMES FALL 2012 Halloween Halloween: it’s a big tradition each year. But have you wondered where it all started? Well, it all started in Ireland as the Celtic festival of Samhain. On Samhain, the Irish believed that ghosts and fairies could come into the human world very easily. In order to prevent them from causing trouble, they laid out offerings or shares of their crops. Trick or treating started when children dressed up as fairies and ghosts to get food during Samhain. That’s a short explanation for Halloween.
