The Fall Leaf Challenge Page 6 By Grant Klasing Once upon a time, in a not so far off land, lived a boy named Zach. Fall was Zach’s favorite season. He loved to play in the colorful fall leaves. His 14-year-old brother loved to hide in the leaves and scare Zach. Now Zach didn’t like to be scared, so he wanted revenge on his brother even though he knew that his brother would beat him in everything he did. One day, during the peak of the fall season, Zach had an idea! He would challenge his brother. His father always told him that “Brains Beat Brawn”, so he would try that tactic. He decided that he would spread the brightly colored leaves around the yard and set a timer. He would challenge his brother to a leaf raking contest. Whoever had the most leaves in their pile would win. He just knew that losing this contest would tear his brother apart. Zach got the leaves ready and challenged his brother. They both lined up and his mother started the timer. They raced towards the leaves and started piling them up. They both racked frantically. After 15 seconds, everything went into slow-motion. He saw his brother’s pile. It was just a bit larger than his own. He climbed up the tree right above his own pile and shook the limb vigorously. The leaves fell onto his pile right as the timer went off. He had won, Brains did beats Brawn every time. He made his brother promise to never scare him again, and his brother agreed. He had finally beat his brother after all. Plum had always been a happy pumpkin growing up with his mom, and dad to guide him throughout his life. But he knew that someday he would have to be carved. He could never imagine what it would be like to have a knife stuck into his beautiful face. All they would do is ruin his face by carving horrible mean scary faces. It finally got to the time where the people started to invade the pumpkin patch. He got adopted by a family that looked nice, but he still wasn't sure. The family picked him up and started to tickle him. He soon found out that the family wasn't carving him they were painting him. They turned him around to face the mirror and said, "Tada". He had looked more beautiful than he could ever imagine. His minion face was amazing and his new family wasn't that bad after all.
